ABOUT

CITYCENTER DANBURY, WITH ASSISTANCE FROM THE DANBURY PUBLIC LIBRARY, IS HOSTING A SHORT FILM COMPETITION. HERE IS YOUR CHANCE TO SUBMIT A SHORT, INDEPENDENT FILM THAT SHOWCASES OUR BELOVED DOWNTOWN DANBURY. CITYCENTER AND THE DANBURY LIBRARY WILL BE SHOWING THE FIRST, SECOND, AND THIRD PLACE WINNERS AT A SPECIAL RED CARPET SCREENING EVENT ON NOV. 14TH, 2019.

AWARDS & PRIZES

THE FIRST, SECOND, AND THIRD PLACE WINNING FILMS WILL BE SHOWN AT A SPECIAL RED CARPET SCREENING EVENT ON THURSDAY, NOV. 14TH, 2019 AT THE PALACE DANBURY. WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT THE EVENT AND SCREENED IN ORDER OF THIRD PLACE, SECOND PLACE, AND FIRST PLACE. EACH FILMMAKER WILL COLLECT THEIR PRIZE AT THE END OF THEIR FILM. THREE HONORABLE MENTION AWARDS WILL ALSO BE HANDED OUT AT THE SCREENING EVENT FOR BEST SHOT OF DOWNTOWN, BEST USE OF CHARACTER, AND BEST USE OF LINE.

ALL FILMMAKING TEAMS WILL BE GIVEN 1 TICKET TO ATTEND THE RED CARPET SCREENING. PRIZES TO BE ANNOUNCED!

RULES & TERMS

ALL FILM SUBMISSIONS MUST BE COMPLETED FILMS WITH A RUN-TIME BETWEEN 4-7 MINUTES. CITYCENTER DANBURY AND THE DANBURY LIBRARY WILL NOT CONSIDER UNFINISHED SUBMISSIONS FOR PUBLIC VIEWING. THERE IS NO LIMIT TO THE NUMBER OF SUBMISSIONS. FILMS CAN BE UP TO PG RATED AND ABSOLUTELY NO NUDITY, NO EXPLICIT VIOLENCE, AND NO EXPLICIT LANGUAGE. CITYCENTER DANBURY AND THE DANBURY LIBRARY WILL NOT CONSIDER ANY SUBMISSIONS THAT DEPICT DOWNTOWN DANBURY IN A NEGATIVE WAY.

PROPS & FILM CONTENT
FILMMAKERS MUST SELECT TO MAKE A FILM IN ONE OF THE FOLLOWING GENRES: SILENT FILM, COMEDY, DRAMA, SCI-FI, OR THRILLER.

ALL FILMMAKERS WILL NEED TO INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING IN THE FILM:

1. A RECOGNIZABLE SHOT OF DOWNTOWN DANBURY. MUST HAVE AT LEAST 10 SECONDS OF DOWNTOWN FOOTAGE.

2. THE LINE: IT’S [OR IT IS] HAPPENING DOWNTOWN. MUST BE INCLUDED IN THE SCRIPT AT LEAST ONCE IN THE SHORT FILM.

3. A CHARACTER NAMED CHARLIE IVES. CHARACTER MUST BE REFERRED TO AT LEAST ONCE IN THE SCRIPT BY THE FULL NAME.

4. ALL FILMS SUBMITTED MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT AT THE BEGINNING OF THEIR FILM: “THE FOLLOWING FILM DOES NOT REFLECT THE OPINIONS OR VIEWS OF CITYCENTER DANBURY, THE DANBURY LIBRARY, OR THE CITY OF DANBURY.”

5. ALL FILMS MUST BE SLATED WITH TEAM NAME, GENRE, FILM TITLE, AND TOTAL RUNNING TIME.

SUBMISSION CLOSES: 11:59 PM ON THURSDAY, OCT. 31ST, 2019

JUDGING
ALL FILMS WILL BE VIEWED BY A PANEL OF 5 JUDGES AND RATED BASED ON ARTISTIC TECHNIQUES IN THE FILM, CREATIVITY, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND ADHERENCE TO THE RULES OF THE COMPETITION.

JUDGING PROCESS
JUDGES WILL VIEW ALL FILMS COMPLETELY AND RATE. RATINGS WILL BE POOLED TO DECLARE A FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD PLACE WINNER ALONG WITH THREE HONORABLE MENTIONS, ONE EACH FOR BEST SHOT OF DOWNTOWN, BEST USE OF CHARACTER, AND BEST USE OF LINE.

SCREENING
THE FIRST, SECOND, AND THIRD PLACE WINNERS WILL BE SHOWN AT THE RED CARPET SCREENING EVENT TAKING PLACE AT THE PALACE DANBURY ON THURSDAY, NOV. 14TH, 2019.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
THE CITY OF DANBURY, CITYCENTER DANBURY, AND THE DANBURY LIBRARY ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS DURING THE CREATION OF ANY SUBMITTED CONTENT AND ALL PRIZES ARE NON-NEGOTIABLE.

ALL FILMS MUST BEGIN WITH THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT: THE FOLLOWING FILM DOES NOT REFLECT THE OPINIONS OR VIEWS OF CITYCENTER DANBURY, THE DANBURY LIBRARY, AND THE CITY OF DANBURY.

OWNERSHIP
CITYCENTER DANBURY AND THE DANBURY LIBRARY RESERVE THE RIGHT TO USE SUBMITTED CONTENT FOR ON-GOING PROMOTIONS.

SUBMISSIONS CAN BE SHOWN AT OTHER LOCATIONS AND ENTERED TO OTHER CONTESTS AS LONG AS THEY ABIDE BY THE DEFINITIONS AND GUIDELINES SET FORTH BY CITYCENTER DANBURY, THE DANBURY LIBRARY, AND THE CITY OF DANBURY FOR THE PARTICULAR CONTEST.

CITYCENTER DANBURY, THE DANBURY LIBRARY, AND THE CITY OF DANBURY RESERVE THE RIGHT NOT TO SCREEN ANY MOVIE FOR VIOLATION OF THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OR FOR ANY REASON DEEMED NECESSARY.

FILMMAKERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING PROPER PERMISSIONS FOR ANY THIRD PARTY BRANDING, ON-CAMERA APPEARANCES, MUSIC, ETC. FILMMAKERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR OBTAINING ANY NECESSARY LOCATION PERMITS AND PERMISSIONS. CITYCENTER, THE DANBURY LIBRARY AND THE CITY OF DANBURY WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE IF FILMMAKER FAILS TO GET STATED PERMISSIONS.

FREE DOWNTOWN DANBURY VIDEO EDITING FACILITY IS AVAILABLE BY RESERVATION.
STUDIO 170 AT THE DANBURY LIBRARY PROVIDES FREE VIDEO EDITING ON iMOVIE OR FINAL CUT PRO ON MAC PLATFORM FOR EDITING. IT ALSO PROVIDES IN-HOUSE 4K CAMERA FOR IN-STUDIO FILM PRODUCTION USING GREEN SCREEN. THIS SERVICE IS AVAILABLE TO CONNECTICUT RESIDENTS WHO ARE AGE 17 AND OLDER, WITH A CONNECTICUT LIBRARY CARD IN GOOD STANDING, IN ADDITION TO HAVING A VALID STATE ISSUED ID LIKE A DRIVER’S LICENSE OR PASSPORT.
